The Pipe Band of Corvera d’Asturies (BGCA) ® is a registered trademark of the Pipe Band Foundation of the Principality of Asturias (BGPA Foundation).
It was founded in 1998 by its Director Bras Rodrigo and constitutes the maximum artistic expression of the students who study the different courses of bagpipes and percussion in its School of Traditional Music.
Drinking from the sources of tradition, the BGCA performs a modern show adapted to current scenic and musical canons. In addition to being an outlet for the students of its School of Traditional Music, the BGCA aims to spread and give prestige to the bagpipe and traditional Asturian culture in all its facets throughout all corners of the Earth.
From a musical point of view, the BGCA is a very innovative formation, achieving totally innovative musical combinations in the world of bagpipes. All this is due to the instruments used by the formation, namely: bagpipes tuned in the key of Bb with a roncón and two ronquinos, specially prepared for the Bagpipe Band; high tension percussion with snare drums, tenor drums and bass drum. In his concert performances he usually performs with timpani, tambourines, keyboards, etc.
His repertoire is mostly made up of the most representative traditional Asturian songs, but he does not forget either the author’s songs and his own composition, in addition to the melodies of other Celtic nations, completing his baggage with songs from other cultures.
The suits used by the BGCA are from the central Asturian zone. They are gala suits, this can be seen in the fabrics where velvet and cloth predominate. They are exact reproductions of what the wealthiest Asturians of that time wore in the 17th and 18th centuries.
