Sir Hugh Percy Lane (9 November 1875 – 7 May 1915) was an Irish art dealer, collector and gallery director. He was born on November 09, 1875 in Ballybrack, County Cork, Ireland.

Sir Hugh Percy Lane is best known for establishing Dublin’s Municipal Gallery of Modern Art (the first known public gallery of modern art in the world) and for his contribution to the visual arts in Ireland, including the Lane Bequest. Hugh Lane died on board the RMS Lusitania.

Hugh Lane is celebrated for his contributions to the world of art, particularly his efforts in promoting and collecting modern art during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

One of his most significant contributions was the establishment of the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, which houses a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary art. Lane’s legacy as an art collector and patron of the arts continues to be commemorated through this gallery and his significant influence on the Irish art scene.
